Documentary wedding photographer Kent

documentary wedding photography

Craig Prentis

Hi, I’m Craig, an experienced documentary wedding photographer based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Most of the weddings I photograph are in the South East but I’m happy to travel anywhere in the UK and will undertake destination weddings overseas. Whatever you’re planning, please use the contact form to tell me about your day

My style of photography is often referred to as reportage, documentary, photojournalism or candid photography. I’m not there to hold you up, make you go back and do things again or make you feel awkward with cheesy posing. Instead, I quietly go about my business, photographing the day as it happens, with minimal fuss and interruption. I’m looking for the moments, the emotion, the real story of the day. This is what I believe a good documentary wedding photographer should do.

I have been a photographer for over 20 years and in the past ten years, have photographed over 300 weddings. Most of my bookings come from a recommendation. I don’t advertise. Couples choose me for my relaxed, observational style. A lot of new couples were guests at previous weddings, so they saw me working on the day and loved their friend’s photos afterwards.

“Thank you so much for quite simply fantastic photography of our wedding. I knew when I gave Richard the shortlist of one to choose from that I was making the right decision and you proved me right and then some!”

Here’s some of my favourite images from last year – photos that highlight my particular style of reportage wedding photography.

The couples that choose me to photograph their wedding place always state that good photography is really important to them. They seem visually aware and often work in creative jobs. They are not bound by pre-conceived ideas of what wedding photography is. Let’s face it, it’s 2018 and wedding photography has moved on. It is not all about one posed line up after another.

I love photographing weddings. They are great social gatherings and each one is unique – the format of the day may be similar, but each wedding presents loads of great photographic opportunities and it is my job to capture them.

“Just a quick note to say that our photos arrived last night and we are completely blown away and overjoyed. We can’t believe how wonderfully they capture the day and how unaware of you we were (in the nicest possible way!).”
